On February 14, Sky presented a creed for Unity, a brief statement of fundamental beliefs we hold:

I believe in one God, the Creator of heaven and earth, Light of all Lights, Spirit of all Spirits, living within and with all creation.

I believe that God reigns in love, equality, justice, and the peace that passes all understanding as taught by those who taught us the Way.

I believe that Jesus of Nazareth proclaimed, enacted, and embodied the Spirit of God and taught us all to live as visible manifestations of the invisible God, and died because the world was not ready for his message.

I believe we are called to help the poor, the helpless and the hopeless.

I believe in the ability to regret inappropriate behavior and to redirect the powers of those behaviors into appropriate, meaningful reflections of the Lord of Love.

I believe in life everlasting, that the journey is as important as the destination, and that all living things express the glory and wonder of God.

Originally presented by Rev. Sky St. John on January 7, 2007
(With thanks to Fred Zydek for his creative input)

Rabia of Basra (c. 717-801) is without a doubt the most popular and influential of female Islamic saints and a central figure in the Sufi tradition. She lived 500 years before Rumi, and more than any other, influenced his writings.
